Butterfly for the Huntsville Botanical Gardens

I am one of the 35 artists chosen to paint a butterfly for the Huntsville Botanical Gardens exhibit, “Green Things & Butterfly Wings”, Saturday May 5, 2012 – Friday August 31, 2012. Each butterfly stands almost 6 feet tall and was hand crafted by Italian wood crafter Nicola Giampietro.

My butterfly is titled, “Plant Curiosity. Grow Dreams.” The concept is simple – encourage people to be curious about everything and imaginations and dreams take flight. Sci-fi has proven that once something is imagined, it can become reality. I never would have believed as a child that I would one day have a phone in my pocket that’s even more awesome than Captain Kirk’s communicator AND Spock’s tricorder. And yet people have made it happen.

When you gaze into the night sky you witness the past, behold the future, and pause the present. I hope my butterfly inspires people to imagine and believe in humanity. We can do great things – we just have to plant the right seeds.
